LivingPittsburgh.com Assignment

So I was asked by livingpittsburgh.com to take some pictures of wings because KDKA.com, a local news station, contacted them for pictures. So hopefully my photo makes it to their site and I get some recognition! Keep your fingers crossed!

They also asked for pictures of some bars in the South Side. Here's some of those pictures:

LivingPittsburgh.com

So I am now a contributing photographer on http://www.livingpittsburgh.com/. Right now there is a picture of mine on the home page, the first one of the smokestacks and the blades of grass. Hopefully more of my photography will be on there in the coming months, as I will be contributing more. It's a pretty awesome site for inexpensive things to do around Pittsburgh too. So check it out! I'll have my bio page up soon!

Skating

Finally got back on my skateboard this past weekend after a long winter. It's been close to a year since I rode it, and it showed. Starting to get my bearings back tho...

Website

The new website is up and running! I'm trying to kick it into high gear with my photography this year. I'll be purchasing some new equipment (lenses and tripod first priority) very soon and I'll be posting lots of new pictures on my website and on here. Check out the site and let me know what you think!

Blizzard of '10!

So much snow! We got about two feet here in Pittsburgh, PA. Most we've seen here in a while. Since the Blizzard of 93! And I think we got more this time. There's a car there somewhere in that last picture. Time to go play in this snow! Snowboard in the back of the Jeep and I'm off!

It was a toss up which one of these I wanted to use. Both of these are very similar; the first one I think is composed better, everything fits well in the frame and I think overall it's the better picture (minus the people in the background). The second I put up because I like it as well, especially the depth of field, but I didn't get the one headlight in the picture and instead focused on the GTO logo. So any comments on it? Which one do you like better? What do you like/dislike about them?

I went to the World of Wheels auto show this past weekend in Pittsburgh and saw lots of cool cars. Lots of older hot rods and custom cars. There was also a pretty cool street bike stunt show. So the next photo-of-the-days will be pictures of cars and such, some of my faves from the show. This one is of the bike stunt show, the guy was doing some crazy wheelies, it was pretty cool.

So obviously I haven't been taking that many pictures lately, again because of the migraine. They've been pretty bad the past couple weeks and have left me pretty incapacitated. But I did get out last Saturday for some all night bowling and snapped a few shots. So the next couple of photos I'm gonna cheat and post some bowling shots. Nothing too excting, and a little bit of editing.

Ok so this picture isn't good at all, but I was sitting in my room and just happened to look out my window at around 3 am and about 4 or 5 deer were walking up the middle of the street, very slowly. Then they walked through the yard across the street and into the woods. The picture isn't very good, it was a far away shot without the flash. It was funny because when the camera focuses there's a metering light that comes on and when it focuses the camera beeps, and as I was focusing out of my window and the light came on and the camera beeped, all of the deer stopped and looked up at me.

So the Pens lost again tonight :( I don't know what's going on with them, but they're definately in a slump right now. They're not doing anything on the powerplay right now, that's a big problem. Hopefully they'll pick up the slack during the rest of the games on this road trip. Anywho, here's some Pens bobbles heads from the basement, hopefully to bring some good luck!

Some more stuff from my dad's garage. I bought him the red Yuengling truck at the Yuengling brewery two years ago for Christmas, and just got him the green one this past year when I went again. And yes, that's Cheech and Chong behind them. Again, just a random pic here, nothing too special.

Just a pic of my dads new(er) ride. Nothing too artisic or special here. Hard to get any other angle but up close in his garage, the car takes up the whole thing!

Ok so this one isn't so great, but it's something. We've had snowfall every day here in Pittsburgh for seriously a week or longer. I like it because it's awesome snowboarding conditions. I love snow. Plus having a 4-wheel-drive Jeep is pretty nice, and fun. I went to Boyce Park tonight to snowboard. Was pretty dissapointed though because the ski lift, even though it was running, wasn't inspected and thus could not be used, and pretty much everything was closed. Except for one baby hill with a conveyor belt thing to get to the top. So rode down that one hill probably 30 times in a couple hours, would have liked to see what else they have there though. A couple more hills and a terrain park with rails. Anywho, after that came home and watched the Pens lost to Philly (booooooo!), got another damn migraine (damnit!), and layed around in bed. Laying around in bed I realized "oh shit! I didn't take a photo again today!" So looking out my window at the streetlight with the snow falling, I got the idea, and thus the shot. It's really not a great shot, just rested the camera on the windowsill and did a long exposure shot. Didn't turn out all that great but it'll do for now. You can barely see the snow falling with the long exposure, but if you look below the bright light you can kind of see it.

Ok so today I traveled to the West End Overlook in Pittsburgh around sunset time, hoping to catch something. If not I was at least hoping to mess around with some long exposure shots with my new camera (which would be pretty difficult sans tripod and remote shutter release, but there's a railing I was going to try and rest it on for the shot). Anywho, what with all the snow we've been getting lately it was pretty overcast and I could barely even see the city from the overlook, so that idea was shot. So walking out from the overlook there's this little walkway with this cool tunnel like thing that I've actually taken pics of a few years back with my point and shoot and I noticed it again and snapped a few shots. Here's one of them. Nothing too special but I thought it looked pretty cool.

Photo of the Day > January 05, 2010

Ok so I've kind of been slacking on the photo of the day photos, but I have good reason. I've been getting terrible migraines for about a month now, and they have hopefully hit the ceiling, because the pain has been unbearable. Usually they last a month or a little longer, but once they get really bad (4-5 bad ones a day) they usually diminish fairly quickly. So here's hoping to that! That being said, I've been incapacitated for awhile, and try to take picture in between when I can. So there's going to be a couple days when I can't get out and take any, and can't find anything around the house that is interesting enough to photograph. That being said, today I'm just going to post a picture of my new toy, my D90. This is the wonderful camera that will take all of the pictures you will see on here. I'm still learning every day, but this camera is awesome. I highly recommend Nikon cameras, and the D90 is an excellent one. Takes beautiful pictures even with the kit 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens. Also takes HD video! I believe the first DSLR to do so (have to check the facts on that one).

Back home in Pittsburgh today. Had a nice week up at Jon's by Reading (minus all the migraines I've been getting again). Good to see friends I don't get to see all that often. Wasn't much daylight left when I got home, and it's pretty damn cold out, so I just took some pics around the house. So today I decided to take a picture of my piano, which I should really start practicing more often in the new year, maybe learn some new songs. Anywho, here's the pic of the day.

So today was a day full of dissapointing sports. The Steelers won, but one of the teams we needed to lose (Baltimore) won, therefore we can't get into the playoffs. There goes our season! The Penguins also lost (again!). Needless to say, I didn't go out today, and didn't get to take any pictures of the day. BUT...I'm going to post one I took on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, the day I got my new Nikon D90. I was at my friend Jon's brother's house and was testing it out. I know it's cheating because I didn't actually take it today, but I plan on taking a picture every day for the rest of the month. And who knows, I may take one by the end of the night...

Took a few pics of Geanna's dog, Cody. It was a toss us between this first one and the second, both very similar but the second has the focus on his snoot. I like the first one because I liked how his eyes came out. I'm going to post a few of them because there were some good ones. Let me know which one you like better!

Photo of the Day > January 1, 2010

Just a random picture of my friend Jon's stove. I was bored at his house on New Year's Day while him and his wife went to the store, and I was trying out my new D90. I'm loving this camera but I'm still learning a lot. Figuring out new stuff every day. I can't wait to develop my skills more and hopefully show that through my photography on here. Hope you enjoy! Comments welcome...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! So I finally bought myself a Nikon D90 for Christmas! I can finally start taking some better photos and get more out of my photography. I'm planning on expanding my portfolio in the new year and hoping to do some portraits and band photos, and maybe even some wedding photography. I'm also working on my photography website, which will correspond with this blog. My portfolio will be available online through my photography website, and I'll also have booking info and such on there. I'll also post some choice photos on here. My goal for January is to take at least one picture a day, and I'm going to post them on here. I may not be online every day to post them, but when I get on I will post one for each day that I took. Hopefully you will enjoy the pictures I take, and if you're around the Pittsburgh area and want to book me for some photo shoots let me know!
